Pinterest has grown to become one of the top social networks and, though it may seem like more casual network, it is actually a powerful business tool. The platform is a simple image based layout where a user places an image into a “pin.” These pins are pinned to specific “boards” that the user has created. The most effective way to utilize Pinterest is making sure that each individual pin is optimized for engagement.
Before we go into how to optimize these pins, let’s take a look how to set up a business profile on Pinterest. First, go to Pinterest’s website and set up your account. Make sure all your information is filled out correctly and a profile image(usually company logo) is set. Next, verify your business’s website on your business profile. This can be done in the settings menu.
After setting up the account it is time to create some “boards.” These can be separated into different categories, subjects, etc. Pinterest suggests that users create boards which share values, highlight specials, celebrate holidays/seasons and showcase how you are different from the competition. Once you have some boards created, it’s time to start pinning some content to these boards. Each pin should contribute to the overall theme of the board it is pinned to.
Pins should not only have visual value for the Pinterest user, but also functional value. Functional value means that the pin will take the user to the source of that image for more information. Use the guide below to get a better idea on how exactly to make these pins full functional for driving traffic to your site and getting more information about your product/service.
Perhaps the most important part of Pinterest is being social and adding some personality to your brand. Simply using the social network as an advertising platform will prove ineffective. Interact and comment on other users content, repin their pins, and follow their profile and boards. By having an good profile, optimized pins, and being social on Pinterest, you will begin to drive significant traffic back to your site.
